How to convince my parents to let me have a pet snake?

Okay, so I really want a pet corn snake. I know all about how to take care of them and even picked out what type I want. I made a presentation to try to convince them but they didn’t really buy it. My father says they’re gross and my mother is scared of them. How could I convince them that its not going to eat them while they’re sleeping?!

How come Snakes raise their head and remain motionless for awhile then go back to the ground?

I notice that our pet snakes will sometimes raise their head and necks up then start to just remain motionless like they are staring at something, my question is basically how come they do that, are they doing it to look for prey or a hiding spot or something?

BQ: Snakes aren’t blind right?
Can they actually see objects or things like Mammals, Lizards, Fish, and Birds do?
