How did they come up with pet snakes? They are fun to play with but back in the old days people wouldn’t want a snake unless it was for soup. So how did they come up with pet snakes?

How did they first come up with pet anything?
"Look, there’s a fish. Let’s stick it in a glass box and watch it swim up and down. That’ll be fun."
i guess some people are very fond of them and like watching them slither around and stick their tongue out constantly!
maybe eygyptians had something to do with it because…I don[t know
Pet snakes probably were first used as protection to ward off intruders. And they lived with the people that owned them so they probably played a second role as pets. I am not sure if they are as loyal as dogs though!
