How do I introduce snakes to my back yard?

by admin on August 24, 2010

Interested in garter snakes or similar small snakes. Lancaster, PA. We have shrews, mice, etc. in the yard, though we are not trying to get rid of them. Large yard in a mostly urban setting, lots of good cover including a woodpile.

Catching any local to you sounds the best, but make sure that there are no cats in the yard, they are murder on them and any that survive will not stay around.

The best way would be to capture local types and introduce them into your yard…Although there is no guarantee at all that they will stay in your yard because of the constant human presence among other various reasons…(terrain, food types, dogs, cats, etc…) ..Introducing out of state or non-local types into the wild is not a good idea, for the snake and Eco. reasons…

First you throw a backyard party, with all kinds of snake games. Then set up a snake kissing booth so that the snakes loosen up a bit. Then as the party proceeds, you can take the snakes around and introduce them to all of the party goers.

If they like the snakes, they will invite them back for another party.

Simple lol

just say "Mr. Snake, I’d like you to meet by back yard.. "

sorry.. couldn’t resist.

certainly, if you have all of those rodents, snakes will come..

you may be able to get snakes from your local pest contol authority.. most folks don’t want snakes around.
