How do you kill snakes that are under your house?

by admin on August 23, 2010

I have 2 very large snake holes that are in my flower bed going under the house from snakes. I have seen 2 of them. I have tried covering the hole with rocks, wood, etc., they just go around it and make another hole to the original one. Mothballs does not work if you already have them. Is there anything I can put down the holes to kill them? Thanks!
I don’t care if they are eating rodents, I do not want them in, under or around my house. They are big and black is all I know and people kill them here (NC) all the time by running over them or just killing them if they find them outside. I just want them gone and there must be some kind of poison I could put in the hole to kill them. I would rather kill the rodents with traps or a cat anyday then have to live with snakes!!!!! So people please only answer if you have a solution to killing them.

Snake Poison ?
Try this. No B.S.
Make a snake trap out of black pvc pipe and steel wire tin enough for you to pull thru holes drilled *or hot nail pushed thru.
Still there? Your’e making a cage at one end to hold a mouse etc. Remember rodents can squeeze thru a hole 1/3 the size of they’re head. So keep that in mind as you close off the inner portion. Give it about twice its body lenght for tube space and then use 1/4 steel hardware cloth ( steel screen with 1/4 inch squares) and a hose clamp to keep said mouse inside.
Now you seem to know the size ( approx. Diameter) of these snakes. So the pipe needs to be only slightlty larger and half again in length.
Allow the bait to run up and down the pipe as much as possible before installing in cage. Its leaving a scent tail for the snake to follow!!
Now set this up very near those holes at late dusk or in the shade. Heat, dead mouse, no snake!
Snake finds bait, only one way in. Can’t turn around or back up.
Snake inside! put cap on open end. Do with as you see fit.
Oh yea feed mouse also, mouse crap smells like heaven to snakes.

Would suggest staying away from them and call a professional to exterminate tem.Although I’ve always heard that the Lime that you can purchase at any feed store will cause them to leave.

you can set traps that you can find at a hunting store that wouldn’t harm them after they’re caught let them go 1 mile from your house and they wont bother you again (i had the same problem)

If they are not poisonous, don’t worry about them. They would not be there if they did not have a food supply, and like the other respondent said, it’s likely that they are eating rodents.

Are you certain that they are snake holes? A lot of burrowing animals make holes.

Remember teh first rule of ecology: You can’t change one thing without changing everything.

First off do you know what species they are? Are they venomous? If they are you should get a professional animal relocator, who will not kill them but move them to a natural location.
If they are not venomous, why worry? They’re attracted by rodents around your house, be thankful!! They’re beneficial!
Most snakes don’t dig holes by the way, you have rodents doing that. The snakes go IN the holes to get those rodents and will often take over and use it for shelter.

If I knew a way to kill them, I wouldn’t tell you.
In most areas, snakes are protected from wanton destruction, because being afraid of them is no excuse for killing them.
The snakes are not what’s digging the holes; rodents are. The snakes probably eat rodents. That’s what you want, isn’t it?
Leave the snakes alone and learn to get over your irrational fears.

Snakes are protected by law, and can cost you a fine and/or jail time.

I suggest you leave them be. Being in possesion of a snake w/out authorization, is illegal.

well, you could try a mongoose, but it’s really not very practical. Also a indigo snake (they eat other snakes)….but your best bet is to just leave them alone. As long as they aren’t poisonous, they aren’t hurting anything, and might actually prevent infestation by mice and other rodents. If you absolutely MUST get rid of them, call animal control.
