I heard on National Geographic that of all the snakes in the world, less than 10% are venomous.

That’s an oversimplified question.
There is only 2 "poisonous" snakes on the planet. So if you go by the term "poisonous", the non poisonous snakes rule.

Of course there are many VENOMOUS snakes on the planet. but they aren’t actually poisonous. You could eat them if you wanted. (Rattlesnake is OK, but nothing to get excited about. I couldn’t tell you about any others.)

The venomous snake families outnumber the non-venomous snakes families. I couldn’t tell you how many venomous species there are compared to non-venomous species. I have heard though that in actual numbers of individual animals the non-venomous snakes are more common. Certainly in the US, and possible in the world.

I’m not sure if that includes the pet trade.

On a side note, the one "poisonous" snake I know of is poisonous from eating poisonous toads. I don’t remember what the other one is.

First of all snakes are venomous, not poisonous. There is a difference. The ratios would be approximately 1:8 or 9.
