What percentage of snakes eat other snakes?

by admin on September 11, 2011

I would think that a perfect food for a snake would be another snake.

How many species of snake eating snakes are there?

A pretty good percentage of the world’s 2,700 different species of snakes are cannabilistic. Here are just some of the species of cannabilistic snakes found in the United States:
King snakes, milk snakes, coral snakes, indigo snakes, ringneck snakes, racers, coachwhips, whip snakes, scarlet snakes, lyre snakes, pygmy rattlesnakes, massasauga rattlesnakes, rock rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths, some being highly cannabilistic and others not as much.

Well, at least all king snakes are cannibalistic by nature. But even non-cannibalistic snakes have been known to eat each other out of competition, or if they run into each other while one is in ‘food mode.’ I don’t see why a snake would be the best food for a snake though.
